So you're visiting the Amalfi Coast and want to live that faux bougie life of luxury. That's my favorite life to live! You might have read my post on how to visit the Amalfi Coast on a budget; but what if you really want to do a bougie trip without totally breaking the bank? well I've got you there too. David and I have been able to stay in a couple of luxury hotels along the Amalfi Coast and Capri that have actually been *drumroll please* affordable! The ultimate travel hack to a bougie vacation in the Amalfi Coast is all about the timing. So let's dive in, shall we?
If you want to be *extra* while vacationing in Italy, which obviously I can relate to, it's all about timing. When most people think a trip to Italy they think of summer, hence the wickedly high prices for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. But what if I told you there are two magical times of year when the prices are super affordable, even along the Amalfi Coast? These two times of year have become our favorite times to visit the famous coastline, so let's talk about the good versus the bad first.
Cheaper hotel & flight rates
Cooler temperatures (Think dress with a jean jacket or jeans and a t-shirt kind of weather)
Not prime weather for the beach and the weather can sometimes be temperamental
Ferries don't run as frequently
Some locations might have not yet opened or are already closed
Basically the Amalfi Coast, as tourists know it, is only open for the summer season. They open mid-late April and close mid-late October. So that means throughout the winter, hotels, restaurants and activities are closed or non-operational. To get those cheaper rates at luxury hotels or those expensive, fun activities, go right as the season begins (mid-late April) or right as the season is winding down (mid-late October). We normally live the bougie life in late October since that coincides with our wedding anniversary!
Bougie Activities on the Amalfi Coast & Capri:
1. Go on a boat tour! Check out this one in Capri.
2. Lounge at a beach club. Sometimes this is included in your room rate, so check with your hotel. I mean you ARE staying at a luxury hotel, and there are often built-in perks.
3. Visit a ritzy bar with incredible views like Franco's Bar at Le Sirenuse hotel in Positano.
4. Spa day! There are some incredibly gorgeous spas sprinkled across the coast.
We've stayed in hotels that are typically $1,250+ PER NIGHT for roughly $350 during these low seasons. I'm talking breathtaking views, swanky robes and amenities, free bottles of champagne and a delicious breakfast spread. All included in the rate. Suddenly that luxury hotel that we'd never be able to afford during the summer is totally doable for a night or two! We've also received complimentary upgrades on occasion when the hotel is nowhere near maximum capacity. I've included some bougie Amalfi Coast & Capri hotels below, so take a peek and let's get this party started!
We love visiting the Amalfi Coast and being extra bougie at the beginning and end of the season. So while you have far more limited ferry options and the weather might not be great for the beach, you are able to have a taste of the bougie life and wander much quieter streets. This, in my opinion, is so worth it! Plus I really hate sweating, sooo it's kinda a no-brainer for me. Honestly, this is the ultimate Italy travel hack for those who have an aversion to sweat or to large crowds.
